LSL 2026 raises £58,000 for the Owen McVeigh Foundation

Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch (LSL) 2026 has celebrated another successful year raising an incredible £58,000 for the Owen McVeigh Foundation.

The event, which took place on Thursday 3rd September at Liverpool Football Club’s Anfield Stadium, was hosted by radio personality, Jemma Cutting and welcomed Nicola Carragher, a mum-of-two and avid runner who completed all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors consecutively within 12 months, as guest speaker.

Speaking ahead of the event last month, Nicola said: “I’m delighted to be invited as a guest speaker for the upcoming Liverpool Sportswoman Lunch on behalf of the Owen McVeigh Foundation. The foundation is such a prominent and respected charity, already supported by so many wonderful people, and I’m truly honoured to be involved. I really hope I can add something meaningful to the day.

“I’ve always been someone who stayed in the background, focused on raising my children and keeping family life at the centre of everything I do. But a few years ago, I felt the need to challenge myself in a completely new way. I set out to complete all the World Major Marathons in a single year to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital — despite not being a runner or an athlete.

“That experience showed me what can happen when you push beyond your comfort zone for a cause that matters. It inspired me to keep supporting children’s charities and to encourage other mums, and anyone really, to take on challenges that stretch them while making a real difference.”

In the five years since its inception the event has now raised more than £219,000 for charitable causes including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, The Encephalitis Society, NSPCC, Marie Curie, LFC Foundation, The Hive, the Marina Dalglish Foundation and this year’s beneficiary, the Owen McVeigh Foundation.

Attended by 360 guests, there was a delicious luncheon in The Beautiful Game suite, a fundraising raffle and auction and entertainment from the Bongo’s Bingo crew.

Natalie Dye from Bathgate Business Finance said: “Once again we are so proud of what we have achieved with this year’s Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch. The funds raised will help the Owen McVeigh Foundation to continue its important work helping children and their families who are suffering from cancer in Merseyside, by providing special experiences and family holidays that help them to create lasting and magical memories together. We would like to thank everyone involved for helping us to make this event happen, and especially our guests for their continuing support and generosity. We can’t wait to see you all in 2027 for the next LSL!”

The Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch was created by Natalie Dye of Bathgate Business Finance, Clare Brookfield of Primas Law, and Marena Mondair of Cardium Law Limited in 2017. In addition to the three founders the Board now comprises Natalie Dickson of Hall Brown Family Law, Lucy Shotter of Bibby Financial Services, Ruth Kirby of NatWest, Louise Molloy of Metro Bank and Alice Gregan of Langtons.
